It's like a flashback to the teen days of having a diary, and then realizing that you have not posted regularly as indended. You write, "Dear Diary, Oh I'm so sorry that I have not written in the past few weeks! You can't believe what has happened!"
Except, today the "diary" is a blog and I'm a few years past the teens. Anyway...
In early January 2007, I hope to begin a home remodelling/addition project. I am going to incorporate eBay into this thing!
- Instead of tossing reusable salvaged materials into the dumpster, where they hurt the environment, I'm choosing a contractor who will help me get some to Habitat for Humanity, and many to eBay!
- I will purchase some unique vintage materials for my project, like an antique stained glass window, not just from eBay, but from Michigan residents offering stuff there. I want to keep my funds right in our local economy.
My project is going to be broadcast every week on WJR's Internet Advisor show. I will be speaking live, with updates on my latest sales and purchases. Plus, I hope to hear from listeners who have been inspired to do the same.
This program can be heard LIVE from anywhere in the world on www.wjr.com. Click "Weekend Experts", then "Internet Advisor" for the program's page, where there will be podcasts of past shows, plus links to me and updates about the project.
I love the "cash from trash" aspect, as always, but much of my satisfaction in this project is for the recycling. I admit to being a product of the sixties, and of being a zealous teenager on the first "Earth Day" in 1970. It makes me crazy to think of the usable doors, windows, hardware, tile and more that makes it to landfills. Why don't people think of how those materials can get into the hands of people who will make great use of the quality vintage materials? I hope to spark some thought along those lines.
